Or a \u201cwoman\u2019s time of the month. \u201c<\/div>\n

I vividly remember a popular sanitary pad advert, where the model spent three-quarters of the time sauntering around the room with a flower shielding her vagina, and the voice-over, in soft tones, constantly using fluffy terms to refer to her menstruation. I remember thinking:\u00a0What’s the point of all this?\u00a0Call a spade a spade, and a period, a period.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Here’s my first argument: It’s not a gorgeous celebration of womanhood or the welcomed presence of Mother Nature; it’s a pain in the\u2026 you know\u2026 down there.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Secondly: When it comes to ‘women’s issues’ \u2013 bras, periods and condoms basically \u2013 there’s a tendency to tiptoe around the issue because God forbid we actually discuss them openly.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
So here’s a list of slang terms referring to your menstruation that should be banned. For life.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

1. “That time of the month”<\/h2>\n
Never been cool with this. It sounds like a secret thing that happens to your body that cannot be spoken of, for fear that if you do, you’ll burst into flames.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

2. “Your menses”<\/h2>\n
Just. Stop. it.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

3. “Flowering”<\/h2>\n
This is not Game of Thrones. It’s not medieval times.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

4. “The dot”<\/h2>\n
It’s more like a thousand dots.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

5. “The friend”<\/h2>\n
Only people who have do not have vaginas, talk less have bled from them, can consider your period ‘a friend’. My friends don’t make me moody.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

6. “Leak Week”<\/h2>\n
I’m not a tap. Even though sometimes it feels like it.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

7. “Monthlies”<\/h2>\n
It’s not your favorite magazine or newsletter that comes to you every 28 days.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

8. “Red river”<\/h2>\n
The image that comes to mind is just unpleasant.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

9. “Aunt Flo”<\/h2>\n
The wordplay (‘Flo’-‘Flow’) is admirable, but no.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

10. “Crimson wave”<\/h2>\n
Again, graphic. It makes you think of surfing in an ocean of blood. Or worse. An interesting name for the soft drink Capri Sun (Sorry).<\/div>\n
