Juicers Making Healthy Living Juicy Again Sips Slowly

Blending, chopping, smooshing, mashing, centrifuging- a Juicer’s features and capabilities are endless. Shopping for a premium juicer at the most affordable price can be daunting but team Econistas along with feedback from our friend, a serial Entrepreneur, Mentor, and Culture/Lifestyle enthusiast Adiat Sade Disu has compiled a ‘juicy’ list and details to consider before you purchase.

Facts: there are a plethora of juicer machines,  from cheap models under $40 to premium juicers that can cost over $200 dollars.

Understanding the benefits of each juicer can be exhausting and difficult to differentiate—(em… what the hell is the difference between centrifugal and Masticating? ). Not to mention questions like: “Which juicer gives me less pulp, works best with fruits, or vegetables, or all greens; and which juicer is easiest to clean.”

There are (in our eco-lifestyle-loving-opinion) 4 categories or types of juicers—the main ones being citrus juicers, triturating juicers, centrifugal juicers, and masticating juicers.

Before Buying A Juicer

The main details you should consider before choosing a juicer are as follows:

  • Cost of Juicer:  What’s your budget? How much money are you able to spend on a juicer.
  • Space for Juicer: Living in the east coast (New York/ New Jersey) area limits most of our team members to smaller apartments. Space is valuable and limited in many of our urban abodes. Your kitchen-counter-real-estate needs to accommodate for your future juicer.
  • Usage of Juicer: How often will you use your juicer? Are you a juicer-a-holic or simply a leisurely user (think: once every year during Mothers day brunch)
  • Efficiency of Juicer: Do you have time to cut veggies or fruits into little baby pieces? Or are you always in a rush and need to be able to throw the entire stalk of celery in the damn juicer? No seriously, I kid you not.

If you’re looking to create a juice-bar-anointed, blend, these are the best juicers our team has tried/tested and according to Health sites.

Types of Juicers

Centrifugal juicers are the most standard type of juicers. Its key characteristic is its use of a rotating blade to cut up fruits and vegetables- similar to a blender. Unlike the blender, the liquid is filtered into a separate container from the juice extracted. Our colleague Sade Adiat Disu, an avid supporter of health and fitness. She swears by it. “I’ve had this juicer since 2010. As someone who lived a sedentary lifestyle (Full-time, work-from-home entrepreneur of 8+ years), I found that juicing helps me detox, provides me the nutrients I need and allows me to have more control over (juice) what liquids enters my body. Knowing what to juice can help control your sugar (cravings), mid-day crash (no need for coffee people), and improve digestion.”

“My go-to juice is usually a concoction that produces clearer skin, less bloating, and hydration (drink before a 2 hr intense workout).  I juice celery (and sometimes add watermelon and pineapple), with cucumbers, lemon, carrot, and apple ( pink lady apples to be exact). The Breville is affordable and provides the best quality of juice (I can’t stand textured juice). So I’m happy with the pulpless juice it produces. I got mine from Bed Bath and Beyond via Amazon. I’d say either go in store to grab it (if you need to view a physical display) or grab it online.
